During that recent tour to Buenos Aires, Sting met with Tamara Di Tella with whom he performed her Tangolates exercises at the backstage first, and later on in his hotel. Here is the story.
Sting: Claimed to be the leanest and most fibrous fifty-and-plus years old man on the stage! Every man wants to have his long and tall body, his posture and his looks. At the River Plate Stadium of Buenos Aires, Sting gathered a huge audience who did not stop applauding him for hours on end. He jumped up and down and run on the stage without getting tired, his long muscles did certainly respond. During that recent tour to Buenos Aires, Sting met with Tamara Di Tella with whom he performed her Tangolates exercises at the backstage first, and later on in his hotel. Sting really liked the method created by Tamara Di Tella and agreed in that Tangolates is “irresistibly attractive”.
The secret of Sting’s body he owes primarily to many years of Yoga and Pilates. The Tamara Di Tella Tangolates or Tango Pilates, however, is harder, more aerobic and definitely a more challenging version of Pilates, and Sting absolutely loved it!
For Sting and his wife Trudy, Tamara Di Tella and her team prepared a special workout from balance, core control and highly concentrated exercises which they performed to the tune of Astor Piazzola’s Tango music, among others. Trudy, Sting’s wife, is a former ballerina herself, so she also loved it!
Tangolates is the newest trend. It was created by Tamara Di Tella, of Buenos Aires, who is the president of the world’s largest chain of franchised Studios.
Tamara had the bright and innovative idea of incorporating cardio to classical Pilates thus making of it a more complete regiment of exercises.
Tamara also designed a new apparatus, called the DI-TELLA®, that allows partner core control and concentrated movements, in a perfectly synchronized manner. Why partner routines? “Welll…”, jokes Tamara: “ because it takes two to Tangolates!!!”
What does Tangolates have that Pilates does not have?
Here’s a quick answer from Tamara Di Tella herself: “My Tangolates or Tango Pilates has the cardio element Pilates does not have!”.
As everybody knows, a system of fitness is not complete if it does not have three parts: a) strength; b) stretching; and c) cardio. Pilates is a truly excellent method but it lacks one of these three parts: the cardio or aerobic part.
When Tamara Di Tella developed her Tangolates Method she took into account this fact and tried to compensate for Pilates’ missing part. How did she do it? With music!. As Sting says: “With an irresistibly attractive music”.
And Why Tango?. “Because”, says Tamara, “like Pilates, Tango is a highly concentrated, core control, coordinated type of and dance”.
Tamara Di Tella Method: Basic Concepts
Tamara Di Tella created her Tangolates or Tango Pilates Method in 2004. Its philosophy is simple: First, music is a great motivator of the movement of the human body. Second, Tango shares with Pilates some basic concepts such as core control, concentration, scapular stability; conscious breathing, flowing movements and posture!. Conclusion? “They complement each other very well”!, says Tamara.
The Science behind Tangolates
Tamara Di Tella’s Method –Tangolates or Tango Pilates-- is not a random or arbitrary sequence of exercises. No, Tangolates focuses on true and tested principles with a science behind them: It was born in a hospital, among patients with severe dysfunctions of the motor system. (see Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangolates)
In Sum
Perhaps the most important thing of it all is that, finally (finally!), clients go to a Pilates class…and have fun!. In the words of Jun, a Philippine Tango aficionado who bought the License and then flew all the way to Buenos Aires to learn the Method: “I am very happy now because I have the best of both worlds… Pilates and dancing! This is fun!!”
Tamara Di Tella Method – Tangolates or Tango Pilates-- hit over the pond to Europe and made the jump very fast. “It’s like they have been waiting for it!. Everybody who sees it, fall in love with it!!”, says Tamara.
Tamara Di Tella says that she is absolutely convinced that Tangolates as a new fitness trend will grow and more and more people will realize the benefits of it; and because it is a complete and fun method of exercises. The extra bonus? “It is more aerobic, so it makes you lose calories and lose weight!!”, explains its creator, Tamara Di Tella.
