Tangolates, sweating art

Tamara Di Tella, famous for spreading the Pilates method in Latin America and
the world, has just devised the last technique that revolutionizes the world
of fitness. By the end of the year it will reach Ecuador.

Who is she? What is Tangolates? What are the innovations to be healthy
and take care of our aesthetics without leaving entertainment and fun aside?
You will learn all of that here.

In 2000, Tamara Di Tella registered and introduced in the Argentinean
and international market an exercising system which she created and
called Pilates, in honor to the man who invented the basis of this
physical education method in the early stages of the XX th century.

She re-tailored it to current needs and included techniques based on more contemporary findings such as the growth hormone, not yet known at that time.

Under a concept of exclusive and unique studios a boom was initiated which expanded throughout Latin America and Europe.

It takes two to dance tango
Successful as her husband, a former Culture Secretary in Argentina, Torcuato Di Tella, she could not keep still for a long time and she gave rise to the last trend: a revolutionary system of exercises especially designed for two.

With the choreography and music of the original tango, and the basis from the Pilates method, this new concept is expanding and it will revolutionize your idea of physical exercise to the rhythm of La Cumparsita, Adiós Nonino, El día que me quieras and other tango classics.

As its name suggests, Tangolates takes after the characteristics of Pilates and of Tango, and it is done with the assistance of purpose-built stretchers (called Reformers) and to the rhythm of 2 x 4.

A blend of Pilates, dance and music, it started off producing enormous enthusiasm in the US and it promises to achieve the most effective classes together with entertainment, exercise and health.

The new proposal combines exercise with fun and with a touch of art. For those who love the tango, those who enjoy feeling all right with their bodies and sharing, this new trend “is the first exercise in history thought to do with a partner", ensures its creator. "It's dynamic, aerobic and real fun", said Tamara.

History repeats itself

As in the outbreak of traditional Pilates, Tangolates also came into being in a hospital. It was born in a rehabilitation room in the major public hospital in Buenos Aires, which was donated by Tamara.

It was there that she found out that “patients affected by motor dysfunctions reacted better to the 2 x 4 music and to working in pairs.”

Later, it gradually developed and acquired features that won it fame in US.

Tango fans as Antonio Banderas, Madonna, Richard Gere, Jennifer López, Robert Duvall, among others are already asking about Tangolates. “This is the direct result of scientific investigation and academic excellence. The fact that it has become a boom is just a consequence of its magic.”

Is it better than traditional Pilates?

The keys to practise it are concentration, coordination, elongation, control, strengthening of the pelvic floor and balance, all required for dancing tango.

This is a strict gymnastic that does not allow for distractions, though at the same time it lets the mind relax from the everyday worries, due to the degree of concentration it requires.

“I don’t think it is better than traditional pilates, it’s only that in order for two people to be able to practise it, more attention is needed, and consequently, it ends up being more complete."

Tamara forecasts a real scoop: she plans to get to the country before the end of the year with a group of investors and to teach Tangolates to Ecuadorian women and men.

Meanwhile, anyone can practise at home with the person they choose and learn little by little.
